THE GRAPEVINE – SEPTEMBER 2025
The Grapevine – September 2025
“It’s the first day of autumn! A time of hot chocolatey mornings, and toasty marshmallow evenings, and, best of all, leaping into leaves!” So said Winnie the Pooh and I have to agree with him!
Our cover photograph reflects the beauty of the autumn colours and fallen leaves just waiting to be leapt into. This month we have more than usual family news including a wedding and two visits from old friends. There is encouraging news from the URC Financial Department in a letter where it thanks URC members for their efforts. There are three sad farewells this month, always a difficult read but, in another way, uplifting, as it reminds us how thankful we are for having known those we have lost, including, this month, Brodie, whom we came to regard as the Church Dog. In our Holiday Memories section, there is an item about Carcassonne, definitely one to be considered for the ‘bucket list’ . We continue to support our friends in ArtPeace through very troubled times. The pièce de résistance event this month has to be our Flower Festival held in the church over the weekend of 9/10 August. The displays were all wonderfully creative and you can read all about it and enjoy two pages of colourful collage setting the scene. Our Songs of Praise service on the Sunday where favourite hymns were sung with gusto and accompanied on the organ and piano by our talented minister, Michael, was a suitable Grand Finale. Please read and enjoy this September issue!
