Station III Jesus falls the first time

Station III
Jesus falls the first time

Mark 8:31, 34-35

Then Jesus began to teach his disciples: “The Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law. He will be put to death, but three days later he will rise to life.”…Then Jesus called the crowd and his disciples to him. “If any of you want to come with me,” he told them, “you must forget yourself, carry your cross, and follow me. For if you want to save your own life, you will lose it; but if you lose your life for me and for the gospel, you will save it.

Isaiah 53:8-9

He was arrested and sentenced and led off to die,
and no one cared about his fate.
He was put to death for the sins of our people.
He was placed in a grave with those who are evil,
he was buried with the rich,
even though he had never committed a crime
    or ever told a lie.”

Prayer

Grounded God, whose stumbling echoes our own,
We are dust and will return to dust.
As body-bags are buried hastily, while shells fall,
We witness suffering beyond our understanding.
May we continue to care and to cry out against injustice.
May we confess our sin and find forgiveness.
May those on their knees through no fault of their own
Rise to life
Through him who walked the way of the cross for Love’s sake. Amen.
