Disability Sunday

Dear Friends,

Sunday 27th September is when Christians across the UK will mark Disability Awareness Sunday.  The charity, Through the Roof, provides a range of resources including this one where you can register, free of charge, to receive a range of resources to help celebrate.

The Revd Lesley Moseley, Ministerial Disciplinary Process Project Manager, says it can be a challenge to remember that all human beings are created in God’s image when faced with the diversity of human form and breadth of human skills and talents. However, each of us is entirely, fearfully and wonderfully made in God’s image – an amazing thought.

Lesley offers this prayer for private and public use.​

Praise to you,
loving and gracious God,
maker of heaven and earth,
mother and father of us all,
for the richness and diversity of human life.
We raise to you people who are discriminated against because they are different,
have different appearances, abilities and behaviours.
Walk beside them as a palpable presence,
strengthening them and consoling them as they face the challenges of life.
Help us to see in people what they bring, not what they do not;
to value contributions, not to count costs.
Grant us the grace to recognise you in those we meet,
the ones whose image speaks clearly to us of you
and the people in whom we find it hard to recognise you.
Guide us in your ways that we may learn to value difference
and live our lives knowing that everything you made is good in your sight.​​​Amen
