Station VI A woman wipes the face of Jesus

Station VI
A woman wipes the face of Jesus

Lamentations 3:48-51

My eyes flow with rivers of tears at the destruction of my people.
“My tears will pour out in a ceaseless stream
Until the Lord looks down from heaven and sees us.
My heart is grieved when I see what has happened to the women of the city.

Isaiah 25:6-9

Here on Mount Zion the Lord Almighty will prepare a banquet for all the nations of the world—a banquet of the richest food and the finest wine.  Here he will suddenly remove the cloud of sorrow that has been hanging over all the nations.  The Sovereign Lord will destroy death forever! He will wipe away the tears from everyone’s eyes and take away the disgrace his people have suffered throughout the world. The Lord himself has spoken. When it happens, everyone will say, “He is our God! We have put our trust in him, and he has rescued us. He is the Lord! We have put our trust in him, and now we are happy and joyful because he has saved us.”

Prayer

Wiping away tears and blood:
a small gesture of compassion
echoed a thousand times.
Woman of Jerusalem,
you did what you could
even though it was a small thing.
God of small things,
may we trust that each small act
of kindness is meaningful:
a hand held, a tear wiped, a tree planted,
a letter written.
Each gesture helps to set the banquet table.
Trustworthy God, help us to trust you. Amen.
